Single-Ply
Membranes Commonly Used In The Western United States
PVC: Made of polyvinyl chloride it is one of the most versatile
membranes for commercial and industrial applications. It is usually
available in 40 to 48 mils thick and generally white. This type
of material typically meets 'cool Roof' standards.
CPA:
Produced by alloying polymeric plasticizers, stabilizers, biocides
and antioxidants with PVC compounds. They are typically produced
in thicknesses of 30 to 50 mils.
TPO:
Roof membranes are compounded from a blend of polypropylene and
ethylene-propylene rubber polymers. Flame retardants, pigments,
UV absorbers and other proprietary ingredients may be included
in TPO formulations. The membrane may be reinforced and usually
is available in white or black but other colors may be obtained.
Thicknesses generally range from 40 to 100 mils.
EPDM:
Made of a elastomeric compound synthesized from ethylene, propylene,
and a small amount of diene monomer. These membranes are available
in 30 to 60 mils and are usually black or white in color.
